SEND Socials Birmingham CIC is looking for friendly, enthusiastic, and compassionate volunteers to support their activities throughout their summer programme and beyond.

SEND Socials Birmingham provides inclusive social opportunities, activities, and support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and their families across Birmingham. Their aim is to create safe, welcoming environments where young people can build confidence, develop friendships, and enjoy experiences that are accessible to everyone.

About the Role

As a volunteer, you will support a range of activities and events for children and young people with additional needs. This is a varied and rewarding role where no two sessions are the same, helping to ensure activities run smoothly while creating a fun, safe, and inclusive environment for everyone involved.

Volunteers may help to:

• Welcome participants and sign people into activities
• Assist with setting up and tidying away venues and equipment
• Support with food preparation (Level 2 Food Hygiene is an advantage but not essential)
• Offer a friendly and welcoming approach to all participants and provide support where needed
• Represent SEND Socials Birmingham CIC at offsite activities and events
• Initiate and encourage play activities with children and young people
• Help create a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all attendees
• Work alongside staff, volunteers, and families to support children and young people throughout activities

The Ideal Volunteer Will Have:

• Knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), or a willingness to learn
• A compassionate, positive, and fun approach
• A non-judgemental attitude that supports young people and their carers
• An understanding of safeguarding vulnerable people (training will be provided)
• Knowledge of Makaton and/or PECS is desirable but not essential

An enhanced DBS check will be required before starting in the role. This will be arranged and provided by SEND Socials Birmingham CIC.
