BID Services has been supporting people with sensory impairments since 1872. Today, they provide a wide range of services across England for Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and sensory-impaired people, helping individuals access information, services, social opportunities, employment support, and community activities.
They are looking for friendly and reliable Volunteer Befrienders to provide companionship and support to service users. This is a rewarding opportunity to help reduce isolation, build confidence, and enable people with sensory impairments to engage more fully with their local community.
Volunteer Duties May Include:
- Providing friendship and companionship to service users
- Visiting individuals in their homes or meeting in community settings
- Accompanying service users to community activities, events, or appointments
- Encouraging social inclusion and helping individuals build confidence
- Supporting people to access local services and activities
- Building positive, supportive relationships with service users
- Offering a listening ear and regular social contact

- Good communication and interpersonal skills

- An interest in helping people with sensory impairments
- The ability to build positive relationships and maintain appropriate boundaries
- Respect for people from diverse backgrounds and experiences
- No previous experience is required, as training and support will be provided

Additional Information
Volunteer Befrienders support service users both in their homes and within the community. The role is flexible, with volunteering arranged to suit the availability of both volunteers and service users. Training, guidance, and ongoing support will be provided by the BID Services team.
