Trustee board welcomes dynamic duo!

By Ashleigh Mills

This November, we’re delighted to welcome not just one, but two fantastic new Trustees to our charity board!

Andy Whelan, an original ambassador of LoveBrum, who certainly knows his stuff when it comes to fundraising and taking part in sporting events.

Andy Whelan grew up in Birmingham and left home to join the Army at 16 and returned 14 years later.   Since then Andy has been working within the public sector all over Birmingham.  He is proud to have watched Birmingham develop from the days of the infamous King Kong to the iconic Millennium Point, Selfridges, Birmingham Library and Grand Central landmarks to name but a few.   Over the last 30 years Andy has raised funds for local charities by taking part in sporting events such as the Marathon Des Sables, Ironman and London Marathon; he joined LoveBrum when it formed in 2015 and became an ambassador in 2017.

His new role as a LoveBrum trustee will enable him to focus on raising much needed funds which will help support projects across Birmingham that may be volunteer led, those projects that have a real impact on the local communities who help to make Birmingham such an exciting place to work and live.  He will use the message of LoveBrum to maximise existing and new fundraising opportunities with increased participation.  He believes that fundraising should be fun and exciting; a shared experience that brings individuals and communities together.

And, Ricky Friend also an ambassador and experienced events coordinator will be supporting us on our annual charitable functions.

Ricky Friend is a Pension and Employee Benefit Consultant for Clarkson Wayman Ball (CWB) for whom he has worked since June 2017.  Prior to this role, Ricky spent 6 years at Deloitte  and 8 years at Mercer.

Ricky is passionate about Birmingham and making it an even more awesome place to live and visit than it already is, having spent his entire life living in and around the area.  Ricky has been part of LoveBrum for over two years, previously sitting on the committees for both Curry King of Birmingham and Membership.

Ricky has three beautiful children.

Over the coming year Ricky hopes to organise exciting and thought provoking events building on the existing calendar of events which will continue to engage the existing membership as well as attracting new members to LoveBrum.

We’re really excited for the future.  On behalf of the team at LoveBrum, we wish you a warm welcome to the fold!

If you’re looking to give a little back in 2018?  We’re on the hunt for volunteers to support our events and fundraising team.  For more info, please get in touch via hello@lovebrum.org.uk.
