Meet The Team: Helena King

By Kate Grantham

Our incredible committees at LoveBrum help the charity to deliver on strategies that increase awareness of the work we’re doing to make Birmingham an even better place!

Not only is Helena King, from SimkissGuy Recruitment, a LoveBrum member, but she works hard as part of LoveBrum’s Membership Committee to spread the word about how to get involved with the charity, growing our membership numbers and raising vital funds to support our incredible causes.

Find out why Helena loves Brum…

What’s your background and where are you based?

Born and raised in the West Midlands, with parents from Birmingham, I went to school in Worcester and only left the region for University, venturing north to Leeds. With many friends deciding to head to London after further education, I always knew Birmingham was where I wanted to build my career and I can’t imagine living anywhere else.

I work in central Birmingham, at SimkissGuy Recruitment, and I spend my days meeting with candidates from across the region, helping them realise their career aspirations.

I am also fortunate enough to get to deliver skills and employability sessions to young people around the Midlands, offering advice and guidance on everything from University applications to CV and interview tips.

Why do you love Brum?

The opportunity! Brummies are known for their modesty, but the city is really starting to come into its own and people are taking notice. Birmingham is in the middle of a period of huge change, with record levels of tourism and inward investment. A multitude of global companies are choosing this time to relocate and expand within the city and it has recently been voted the most entrepreneurial city in the UK as well as the youngest city in Europe.

Every week, new restaurants and bars are choosing to open here, we have HS2 on the way and the Commonwealth Games in 2022. I could go on, but hopefully I’m preaching to the converted!

Why did you choose to join the LoveBrum Membership Committee?

LoveBrum is such a unique charity and it has opened my eyes to so many grass-roots and hidden-gem projects across the Midlands, that I just wanted to spread the word as much as possible. I have been lucky enough to meet with numerous causes that LoveBrum has supported and see the impact that just £20 can really make.

I love that I get to work alongside such a dedicated team who are passionate about making Birmingham a better place to live and that together, we have led on initiates such as Members Mingles and the LoveBrum Loyalty Card, all focused on driving individual memberships.

What projects are you passionate about?

I always say that one of the toughest decisions I have to make each month is which cause to vote for! I could make a case for every cause we have supported, but I am particularly passionate about supporting young people and women with both personal and professional development. Animal charities also have a special place in my heart!
