Throughout November, LoveBrum showcased three projects from across Birmingham, all working hard to make our city sustainable. We’re absolutely delighted to announce the winners of our Environment round of funding!

£2,000 WINNER Sustainable Life Birmingham

Sustainable Life started out as a private workshops company, teaching people new skills such as foraging, basketry, outdoor cooking, earth ovens etc. They quickly realised, however, that the people who wanted to attend were unable to afford to do so, and the people who could, didn’t need the skills as much. They decided to do something more worthwhile, and now work in the community with those who will really benefit from learning new skills.

Sustainable Life Birmingham work on a variety of community projects across Birmingham, focusing on growing and gardening skills, and sustainability skills.

£2,000 funding enables Sustainable Life Birmingham to complete their garden transformation! Once the garden is ready for the public, Sustainable Life will use this as a space for the whole community and start to run open days. They hope for the first open day to be an affordable and accessible Santa’s Grotto for those who wouldn’t normally be able to afford this.

£1,000 WINNER Birmingham Friends of the Earth

Birmingham Friends of the Earth works towards their vision of a better, cleaner and fairer local environment by educating as many people as they can. This ranges from primary school children right up to decision makers in Birmingham City Council. They deliver school workshops, producing lesson plans and teacher packs, and demonstrate at local events, as well as hosting student work placements and mentoring volunteers and producing research reports.

£1,000 will help Birmingham Friends of the Earth to employ someone to develop their outreach strategy by building relationships with community groups, as well as developing accessible resources that will enable them to engage more people from diverse backgrounds and expand their reach.
