Smart Works Birmingham

Intro

Smart Works Birmingham looks to support women struggling to back into work. They provide styling services and interview coaching to ensure that women go to interviews looking and feeling their best!

Who are Smart Works- Birmingham?

Smart Works- Birmingham opened its doors in Northfield in the summer of 2016. The need to support women getting back into work in Birmingham rose when Rebecca Debenhams, the charity’s former Chair identified that female unemployment in Birmingham is 6% over 2% higher than the national average.

Smartworks provide interview preparation via highly skilled, fully trained volunteers that style clients in an outfit and accessories for their interview which is theirs to keep as well as provide personalised one to one coaching in two hour long appointments. All with the aim of giving these sometimes vulnerable women faith in their own ability to succeed.

The clothes, shoes and accessories are donated through other working women or donated by local businesses and retailers as well as the likes of Evans Hobbs and Whistles.

Smart Works- Birmingham hopes to provide sense of empowerment as it’s all about women supporting one another and helping those that may struggle to see what skills and strengths they could bring to a new role. They are proud to support women over 30 as there is often a lack of provision for this age group and are keen to support women aged 16- 25 who may be starting out in their careers. Over half of the women they meet go onto to find work!

Your £20 membership could help buy 5 pairs to tights making sure that these women go to their interviews looking the business!

If successful, what will you use your LoveBrum funding for?

Smart Works- Birmingham would like to use the funds to host an event to mark their second anniversary and celebrate the successes of the women they have supported.

They would like to double their client base moving from 20 appointments a month to 40. In order to do this they need to recruit 10 more volunteers and this event would help raise awareness of the fantastic work Smart Works- Birmingham do and in turn get more women in Birmingham thriving and back into employment.
