Chapter II Youth Cycling
Chapter 2 Youth Cycling are a North Birmingham group of all ages spreading their passion for the sport of cycling. Chapter 2 aims to teach good road safety to children and young people, and raise engagement of the sport in their local area.
What is Chapter 2 Youth Cycling?
Chapter 2 Youth create a safe space for children and young people to ride their road bikes in a casual and noncompetitive environment. Founded by a professional racer, Kelly Murphy, the group was formed as a way to give back to the sport and has since gone from strength to strength. Chapter 2 hold four rides every Saturday, each catering for all ages and abilities. Three of the rides are based on a slow / med / fast paced road route, and the fourth is a ‘family ride’ – which takes place within the safe confines of the beautiful Sutton Park.
The key aim of the group is to teach road safety and etiquette, to ensure attendees can enjoy the sport without any risk of harm to themselves or others, to understand bike maintenance. And most of all, to get outside, get fit and healthy and have fun!
If successful, what will you use your LoveBrum funding for?
With the potential £2,000 funding, Chapter 2 Youth will be able to expand and get more people qualified to coach and help new youth riders. They will improve their safety measures by investing in first aid training for 10 / 15 of their key members. It will also enable additional resources, such as spare bikes and personal insurance. To allow the group to be more inclusive of underprivileged children, to get them into the sport and develop their ability and confidence.
