Cakes 4 Casualties
Cakes 4 Casualties provides an array of home baking for our Injured Troops. Once a week in Birmingham and once a month at Headley.
What is Cakes for Casualties?
Cakes 4 Casualties began 6 years ago upon a hospital visit to Selly Oak Hospital with family and sharing some homemade cakes with the injured soldiers. Following this, she hoped to return to feed the remainder of the ward – at the time she baked 12 dozen and returned every week for the last 6 years.
A visit from ‘the cake lady’ was not only just a massive boost to our soldiers morale, it also helped get extra calories in for wound healing. The hospital’s mental health team also reported her visits as a massive positive.
Kath’s reputation has preceded her and she has since made visits to Headley Court, HMS Drake in Plymouth, Salisbury Hospital, Royal Marine Rehabilitation Triathlon Lympston – even the Invictus Games in London!
If successful what are you going to use your LoveBrum funding for?
To refit and upgrade the Cakes 4 Casualties kitchen, which has taken a battering over the past 6 years. In order to continue to bake and visit our soldiers.
