Breast Friends

Breast Friends was founded 20 years ago in 1996 at Good Hope Hospital by a small group of ladies who had all been diagnosed with breast cancer.

What is Breast Friends?

Breast Friends is a support group based at Good Hope Hospital, run solely volunteers who have all been diagnosed with breast cancer. They aim to help local women through a difficult time by offering them friendship, emotional support, and practical help from the time of diagnosis and beyond. Breast Friends aim to raise awareness of Breast Cancer within the local community so that people can seek diagnosis and treatments as early as possible.

If successful, what will you use your LoveBrum funding for?

One of Breast Friends key aims is to provide a support network to those going through breast cancer. As well as the practical help for ladies going through treatment, such as chemotherapy or post-operatively, help is also available for those who are seriously ill with secondary cancer. Breast Friends provides domestic help for these ladies, offering a variety of services such as help with childcare, door to door laundry service, gardening, as well as and helping to deal with hair loss.

Breast Friends also helps towards equipment costs for these ladies, helping to buy wheelchairs, riser recliner chairs, and stair lifts. If Breast Friends won the funding, it would ensure that these services can continue to those in need of help through a difficult time.
