Serve Our Brummies, a project set up to feed the homeless in the city, has been tackling the stigma that surrounds homelessness with the support of, LoveBrum.
Serve Our Brummies is dedicated to providing support to Birmingham’s homeless population, whether that be a hot meal, a cup of tea or even lending an ear to those who need it. Regular soup kitchens are held across the city, aiming to not only provide venerable people with a hot meal, but also giving them somewhere to turn to for support. Run by volunteers of the St Vincent de Pauls Society, Serve Our Brummies was set up to tackle the stigma that surrounds homelessness, and make sure Birmingham is doing as much as possible to deal with the issue.
LoveBrum recognised the importance of the work Serve Our Brummies carries out in the community and has awarded them funding of £2,500. The funding allows the charity to continue to provide that vital support to those who’ve fallen on hard times, and will help them feed hundreds of hungry mouths in the upcoming months. Serve Our Brummies have already used a proportion of the funds to purchase over 100 sleeping bags to distribute around the city, as well as buying two commercial sized gazebos in order to provide some shelter during the harsh winter months.
